This section of web space is dedicated to things I've written. To the left is a list of my works grouped by type. The Ramblings group is mostly essays, but since things like my bio don't really fit that description I made it more of a catch-all group.
After reading something consider using the Reader Response form (the little animated icon in the bottom left) to let me know what you think. Your email address is optional though I will need it if you expect a reply.
Below is an alphabetical listing of the titles listed on the left with a few notes for anyone wanting to know what I'm offering.
| Adjectives | A solidly religious poem. I wrote it after reading Hebrews 1, but others have linked it to Mark 8:29 and Colossians 1:15. After reading the poem you can read some of the comments people have made on it or listen to it being read by Mike Franklin. I clipped Pastor Mike's words a little so you can hear the poem, his comments on it, and the reference he used in the sermon which the poem accentuated. You can get the full sermon through TheTorch.net. |
| Boethius And Free Will | This is an essay I wrote in college. The class was Medieval Literature, the book was The Consolation Of Philosophy by Boethius. The professor was so impressed with what I wrote that I thought it might be worth sharing here. I cleaned up the errors that cost me points in the grading but otherwise it is the same as what I wrote for the class. I have to warn you, if you believe in predestination you may get offended. That's fine. Use the reader response form to send me some nice hate mail. |
| Caught | A short tale about my brush with an angel. It is 100% true. There's a picture on the Images page that was taken during the events in the story. |
| Criticism | A short essay I was invited to write for The Crossing several years ago. It was edited before publication. I have lost the original, but they kept the important points so you won't be losing much. |
| CS Lewis | I wrote my high school senior term paper on the life and works of C.S. Lewis. I recently found my rough draft which is heavily marked and difficult to read. However, with the recent popularity of the movie The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe I thought some of my visitors might like some of the information I found on his life and beliefs. My research also touches on a question that has been a topic of debate on many bulletin boards: Did Lewis write this story as a Biblical allegory? This is not the entire paper, only the excerpts I could reproduce without going through the task of rewriting the whole thing. |
| A Demon's Kiss | I talk about this poem in my book Teaching The Wisemen, but it had already been published so I couldn't include it in the book. This is the one inspired by Frank Peretti's novels. It was the overwhelmingly positive response to this one that encouraged me to take my writing more seriously and break away from the goofy comedy I had been writing up to that point. |
| Dreams | A work in progress. A transcription of some of my most vivid and powerful dreams. It's already fairly long so I may break it up, but there is enough there to be potentially interesting. |
| The Electronic Contraceptive | A half serious, half goofy poem stemming from a conversation about TV's in the bedroom. I made an offhand comment about it being an electronic contraceptive. Kim thought I should write something based on that so I did. |
| Fight The Good Fight | My attempt at writing a CSI Miami short story. It's tough writing someone else's characters. I'll be interested in hearing from fans of the show if they think I captured the personalities well. |
| Freefall | A short poem I wrote on my way to Alaska. |
| My Mind | "Where do you come up with your ideas?" I get that from time to time as any writer does. I don't know if I have I good answer for that, but here's a glance into that question as well as one reason I'm devoting so much time to getting feedback from readers like you. Please read it with a note of humor; it's meant to make you chuckle not feel sorry for me. |
| On the set of Rustin | a short description about my day on a movie set with actor/singer Meatloaf. |
| Relearning to Feel | A poem about anger and forgiveness. Written somewhat in a style I could hear one of my favorite bands, Project 86, playing. |
| Solo | This is one of my favorite poems. I feel like I captured the mood exceptionally well in this one. Having been published in Echoes of Nature (a book of poems by various authors) I could not include it in my own book, but I'm glad to be able to share it here. |
| The Time Without You | A poem about love for which the International Library of Poetry has given me an editor's choice award. They have accepted it for publication in books, on their web site, and in an audio collection. I wrote this one in the early to mid nineties while waiting for church to start one Sunday evening. |
| Vampire Theatre | A dark poem translated from a dream. I'll let you decide for yourself what it's about and would love to hear your thoughts. I'm as pleased with this one as anything I've written. |
